Do Multivitamins Work?

Fighting Stress for the Holidays

stressedIn today’s world, I find it hard to find a single person that isn’t stressed. Whether it’s job stress, stress due to injuries or illness, or simply being too busy, stress has a direct impact on both your mental and physical function. This is especially true this time of year. With all of the holiday parties, unhealthy eating and drinking, hectic shopping schedules, and traveling, the holiday season can become very stressful. As wonderful as the holidays can be, it is important to be aware of the stress on your body and to take good care of it. If stress is left to affect your body, health problems may develop.

Is Joint Pain Normal?

joint painAs a chiropractor, probably the most common problem I see with patients is joint pain. Whether it is an acute traumatic injury or a chronic issue like arthritis, joint dysfunction is what brings most people into the office. Chiropractors have an extensive education in joint pain, the causes, and how to treat it and at our office, we take multiple approaches in the treatment of joint pain, no matter the original cause. Beginning with the adjustment to enhance mobility and function of the joint, we also use techniques to improve the surrounding muscle function, exercise instruction to increase strength and stability, and nutrition to help support the body and healing from the inside out.

The Importance of Vitamin D

Bone HealthWhen I counsel patients for nutrition, if I find that there is a common interest in supplementation. Many people want to know what they should be taking and in what amounts to maintain or improve their general health. Though I do have many recommendations, one of the most common suggestions I make is to supplement with vitamin D. Through my schooling and reading the most recent research, vitamin D has appeared to be far more important than previously thought. Most people know vitamin D for it’s support of bone health, but what many people don’t realize is that if serves many other functions as well.

What if your best intentions are causing your child more harm than good?

ChildAll great parents want what’s best for their kids. I think all would agree that excellent health is a top priority for their child. If not in good health, all else suffers. Because so many parents feel this way, they make their children eat healthy food, get a good night’s sleep, and even give them a daily multivitamin to support their child’s growth. I applaud parents that do this for their children. Since childhood involves rapid growth of so many body processes, supporting good health is crucial to proper development. But what if your best intentions are causing more harm than good? Clearly, adequate sleep and healthy eating are a no brainer, but what about that children’s multivitamin?

Read This if You Take a Statin Drug!- The Benefits of CoQ10

CoQ10February is heart health month and to celebrate, I have decided to do a write up about CoQ10. CoQ10 is a supplement that has generally grown in popularity in the past decade. While this is a good thing, I find that many people aren’t really sure of what CoQ10 actually is and why they should be taking it. Well, here is your explanation!

Fight off Seasonal Cold and Flu with Echinacea

FluThis time of year welcomes in many wonderful things, such as the holidays, snow sports, and new resolutions for a promising year ahead. Unfortunately, it also welcomes in the cold and flu season. With severe weather changes, being stuck indoors, and excessive partying from the holidays, immune systems are low and can’t fight off invading viruses like at other times of the year. Fortunately, there are many things we can do to keep these invaders at bay. Getting adjusted to stimulate the immune system and hand washing are two key examples that I recommend. Another great tool for illness prevention is to supplement with Echinacea.
